[00:05:30] So after his 17th birthday, ship board in the Southeast Asian Vietnam Camp, a penulton with the Marines and upon completion of UDT SEAL training in 79
[00:05:40] He served with SEAL Team 12 and Team 5 in Coronado, California
[00:05:45] Here in the commission in 1986 as a medical service corps officer where he served another 10 years
[00:05:49] From Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Washington DC as the Navy Surgeon General's head of the medical military construction planning and programming division
[00:05:58] Upon his retirement he was once again called on to serve the military cobrards for 19 more years as program manager in the design creation deployment of the DOD Health Facilities Management Program
[00:06:09] And that program operates worldwide

[00:12:32] So, you know, you got started, what made you join?
[00:12:37] Was it a family thing?
[00:12:39] Had any of your family been in the Navy prior to that?
[00:12:41] What made you join at 17?
[00:12:43] No, I'm glad you asked that actually
[00:12:44] I had left home when I was 15 hitchhiked to Arkansas
[00:12:49] To live with my grandparents because I wanted to get away from all the crazy fruits and nuts in California
[00:12:54] Yeah
[00:12:55] Which is where I grew up, I apologize about that
[00:12:58] And when I was there they brought in, I was never military minded
[00:13:02] They brought in all these recruiters, Army, Air Force, you know, the Marine Corps
[00:13:08] All of them came through
[00:13:10] And the last guy was a Navy guy
[00:13:11] And I was hitting on a girl up in the stands when I was there at school
[00:13:17] And then the last thing he said, and then he goes
[00:13:20] And then we got these guys, he says, honestly, I can't tell you much about them
[00:13:24] They're kind of top secret and stuff
[00:13:26] But all I know is they go around parachuting, scuba diving and blowing things up
[00:13:29] And I thought, that's my future, it's where I want to go
[00:13:34] So I went back to California
[00:13:36] And it's 17 years and I went in 17 years in one day
[00:13:42] And went to MEPs
[00:13:45] And then 17 years, 28 days old, I joined the Navy and headed to boot camp and then over to Southeast Asia
[00:13:51] Let me ask you this, and I'm sure you know because I know SEALs are brothers for life
[00:13:57] Do you still stay in contact with a lot of the other SEALs you served with and actually trained within BUD?
[00:14:03] I stay in contact with a few of them, you know, sometimes we're not quite as tight
[00:14:09] I was not a drinker or anything when I went
[00:14:12] What I did was I got kicked out of the Navy after my first four years
[00:14:16] So I was a little on the renegade side
[00:14:18] Gotcha
[00:14:20] And then after I got kicked out, my best buddy went to BUD's, the SEAL training in Coronado
[00:14:25] And I told him, you can't do that, that's why I joined the Navy
[00:14:28] So I came back and went in
[00:14:29] But by that time I had become a Christian and I thought, you know, I shouldn't drink and carouse and stuff
[00:14:35] That builds camaraderie, you know, now looking back at my age, to be honest with you
[00:14:41] I wish I had an investment in a beer company
[00:14:45] Because that really does build that camaraderie
[00:14:50] But I didn't know, I was misled down the road thinking there's good and right
[00:14:54] And really there's a hard thing, it's a hard thing, not so much an action thing of what you're going to do whether you drink or not
[00:15:01] But anyway, I do keep in touch with a couple guys, my boat that I was living on just got bought by another frog man that was with me at UDT 12
[00:15:11] Oh, gotcha
[00:15:13] Now was BUD's, back in that time period, was BUD's tougher than it is now?
[00:15:19] Or do you think it was easier, not that it's ever easy, let me emphasize
[00:15:22] You know how bad this is
[00:15:25] Tell him to stick his foot in his mouth, go ahead Dan
[00:15:27] There is nothing easy about BUD's, okay, so let me just quantify and clear up what I just said
[00:15:32] But do you think it's changed, you know, compared to now versus then? What are your thoughts?
[00:15:38] You know, I think our instructors back then were guys that came out of the Vietnam era
[00:15:45] So they were probably a little more unique, a little more grungy probably than those that we're sending through now
[00:15:54] But supposedly 500 guys tried out for my class, 52 of us made it
[00:16:00] And out of the 52, 5 of us graduated
[00:16:04] And you know, a good example, I love telling the story
[00:16:07] So back then, one of the days we had just before the end of Hell Week
[00:16:13] Hell Week you're up at midnight on Sunday, you're already awake
[00:16:17] And then you're basically awake doing something until Friday afternoon
[00:16:21] So Thursday our group took us to, or the instructors made us run down to Imperial Beach
[00:16:29] Which is down on the border just north of Tijuana
[00:16:31] And we spent the day playing in the sewage that comes down the hill from Tijuana into what's called the slough
[00:16:40] It's about 10 miles long, 2 miles wide and about 3.5 feet deep
[00:16:46] It sounds savory
[00:16:48] It's savory, I'm telling you what
[00:16:50] So I had the pukes and the runs for a good week after doing that
[00:16:55] But we spent the day doing that, you know
[00:16:58] They don't do it anymore, I don't know what they do
[00:17:01] But I'm pretty sure that you never let these young, what we call them are tadpoles
[00:17:07] We don't let the young tadpoles get away with crap at all
[00:17:10] It doesn't matter
[00:17:12] There's no doubt, there's lots of stories about Hell Week that float around
[00:17:16] Pretty tough stuff, you know
[00:17:18] At the end of the day, it's always concerning to me
[00:17:21] Because the woke ideology, I'm afraid it's changing our military in a way
[00:17:27] That it's not good to defend the country
[00:17:29] I don't think these are the kind of people that if I had to go back to back
[00:17:32] Or if I had to be the number two man, I would want them standing behind me or in front of me
[00:17:38] So it's concerning for me, you know
[00:17:41] I dealt with lots of different people over the years when I was a military contractor
[00:17:46] And it's frightening
[00:17:49] The people and this ideology and this wokeism and DEI ideology
[00:17:53] Which I believe is all intentional to destroy it
[00:17:55] What's your thoughts on that before we dig into some of this other stuff?
[00:17:58] Wait Lance, I gotta ask you a question Dan

[00:18:02] I'll remember yours, Lance
[00:18:04] Do you always make your bed and you'll never be a sugar cookie?
[00:18:07] I make my bed every morning brother
[00:18:13] But that is not what it's about
[00:18:15] I only do that because I hate messes, you know
[00:18:17] But we did get beat up and I was basically one of the, I was a slow runner
[00:18:23] So it didn't matter what evolution we were going to do
[00:18:27] I was going to be a sugar cookie
[00:18:29] They'd make me get, you know, you get in the water, head to toe, you get soaked
[00:18:34] Then you roll around in the sand, you dump it down your blouse, your shirt
[00:18:38] And literally you spend the whole day with, as a sugar cookie
[00:18:42] And I was one of those guys
[00:18:44] To be honest after a while, I loved it
[00:18:47] It was the best time I could be was when I was away from the instructors
[00:18:49] So heck, I don't mind running around and jumping in the middle of the ocean
[00:18:52] And playing in the sand, you know, great times
[00:18:55] But you know what? During 9-11 we saw a huge resurgence of just patriotism
[00:19:02] Because we were attacked, you know
[00:19:05] The reason behind it, I can't even go into that because
[00:19:08] You know, it just pisses me off the whole deal
[00:19:11] But anyway, the thought is that we have Americans who are Americans who believe
[00:19:16] I like what you say, God, country, family, that's it
[00:19:20] And they joined my best buddy, Dave Bald
[00:19:23] He did the forward for my book, my last book
[00:19:26] And he joined, he got out, he was a Lieutenant Commander with me in Cuba
[00:19:33] Got out of the Navy, did another little gig, got out of the Navy
[00:19:38] 9-11 hit, he went over to the Army and said I want to come back in
[00:19:41] And became one of their emergency room staff straight to Afghanistan
[00:19:49] That's the kind of people that we saw punching in
[00:19:52] And we still have those people around
[00:19:55] I mean, there's a lot of those folks in Special Forces
[00:19:57] I'm telling you, around the globe, people I run into, we have some tough mothers
[00:20:02] That's all I can say
[00:20:04] I feel kind of wimpy because I came in right at the end of Vietnam
[00:20:07] The training was tough because we had the Vietnam, you know, era of events
[00:20:11] But we had a period of peace and it became, we became weak
[00:20:16] When SEAL Team Six came to be, it just added a little more vigor and vim
[00:20:21] To the intent of the operations
[00:20:24] And then we literally started going a little more global
[00:20:27] So today, how are they? I know, you know, the whole Vax issue
[00:20:32] The creation of females, it's just, it's disgusting
[00:20:36] And the first, the last thing you ever want to do is bring women around to Frogman
[00:20:41] Because they will kill each other for that woman
[00:20:44] You don't do that stuff
[00:20:46] And they're pushing that in every realm within the military
[00:20:49] So it's screwed up, it's screwed up
[00:20:52] It's concerning for me because at the end of the day, you know, you've got to have the best of the best
[00:20:57] And you can't do that when you're making decisions based on some kind of a woke agenda
[00:21:03] You know, and obviously it almost seems like a competition of wokeness
[00:21:06] What agency or what portion of the military can go more woke than the others
[00:21:12] And I just, you know, and most of those policies are getting handed down by people that have never served
[00:21:18] Don't know anything and what it takes to be on a battlefield
[00:21:21] And don't really understand what's really necessary to protect our enemies from, you know, our borders from all enemies, foreign and domestic
[00:21:29] So you ended up, so you did that, then you went down the medical route
[00:21:32] Which was interesting in itself
[00:21:33] Had yours always been drawn to medical? Was that always something that you had in the back of your mind?
[00:21:38] Not at all, not at all
[00:21:40] You know, it's just the way God kind of led my path along to be honest with you
[00:21:43] So I had done four years, I didn't want to be a medic, I didn't want to be a corpsman
[00:21:48] I was a bosun's mate
[00:21:50] But I had put down to our career counselor saying, yeah, if I did anything else, I would go and healthcare
[00:21:57] You know, I'd be a corpsman
[00:21:58] And I've been on two years on ship, absolutely loving the Decade ship type stuff
[00:22:04] And I have a picture on here where I'm actually on the canoe team
[00:22:08] I'm on the Outrigger canoe team for the Navy out of Hawaii
[00:22:12] And we take our canoe with us over to the South Seas, South China Seas
[00:22:15] And we'd have a blast
[00:22:17] I loved doing that and then they said no, you're going to be a corpsman
[00:22:19] Sent me to corps school, stuck with the Marines
[00:22:22] And you know what? They weren't gung ho, they were political
[00:22:26] And it just pissed me off, so in essence I got kicked out
[00:22:30] And when I came back in, realized you know what? You can't win the game if you don't play the game
[00:22:35] Right? I came back in with that intent that I'm going to make it through and I'm going to win this game
[00:22:41] I know what I want, I want to be a SEAL, I want to travel
[00:22:44] I want to make a difference in the world
[00:22:46] And my attitude, so unfortunately I didn't have too many mentors back then
[00:22:52] That pushed me down that realm, but I did have a couple chiefs
[00:22:54] And chiefs rule the world kind of, because they're the guys who've been there and done that
[00:23:00] And they'll kick your butt if you don't do what you're supposed to do
[00:23:03] And that's what young men need
[00:23:05] We don't have that today, you know what? We're giving them yellow cards
[00:23:08] We're getting them off free
[00:23:10] We're giving them safe spaces, safe spaces
[00:23:13] Safe space, exactly
[00:23:15] We always got to say Dan, learn how to play the game, that's what I always tell people

[01:33:10] And then we got to the point where you can actually have a picture of it you can zoom in and see all the specs all the data behind it well they can do the same thing because every item has a unique identifier.
[01:33:20] In military medicine now if you have an air handler unit has a h1-325 or whatever it's got a unique identifier well we all have a unique identifier it's called our DNA and if they have the ability to have our DNA and control it individually they can monitor you know we already know Google monitors everywhere we go what we do.
