This is not a separate audit but an authorized element of the biannual election audit already required. A legislative audit is an internal audit. It is not an independent audit by a qualified third party, such as a Certified Public Accounting firm, and it is definitely not a forensic audit, the purpose of which is to identify fraud. Internal audits are for internal purposes; for risk management, efficiency, governance, assessing internal controls, etc., but for assurance to the general public you use a CPA firm. I am a huge advocate of the Legislative Auditor General and their important role. I expect to gain some valuable insight from the audit conducted by the Office of the Legislative Auditor General but, as a CPA, I also understand the scope and objectives of this audit, and thus I will continue to seek verification of the legitimacy of Spencer Cox's signatures and of the election itself. * In 2024, Cox lost to Phil Lyman at the Utah GOP Convention 67.5% to 32.5%, failed to qualify for the primary ballot! Lyman emerged as the sole Republican nominee at the convention, while Cox bought his way onto the ballot using the nomination petition process legalized in 2014 with SB54. * Romney Failed to Win at Utah Convention, but Few Believe He’s Doomed - NYT.
