Since just after the Revolutionary War, there have been those seeking to kick God and the Bible out of society. In eighteen forty four, Supreme Court Justice Joseph's Story upheld the use of the Bible as a tool for teaching in government schools. In this Bidal versus Girard case, mister Girard's will permitted the teaching of the Christian faith, just not by members of the clergy. Justice Story's opinion that Girard's will was not derogatory towards Christianity rested on two determinations. First, a layman was capable of teaching the general principles of Christianity. Second, Girard's will actually permitted the teaching of the Bible in schools. It was duly noted that the founding fathers warned that in order for the United States to become and remain great, her people must be of good moral character. Mister Girard clearly understood the importance of teaching students the Biblical principles of morality and its general precepts. Whereas can the purest principles of morality be learned so perfectly as from the Bible? Where are benevolence, the love of truth, sobriety and industry superior intellectual development be so powerfully and irresistibly inculcated as in the Bible. I'm roward.
