Minnesota's state lawmakers and whistleblowers have alleged that Governor Tim Walla's administration retaliated against government employees who raised concern about fraud. Witnesses testified that state employees who reported suspicious activities faced retaliation, including being escorted out of buildings, threatened with being fired for cause which would disqualify them from unemployment benefits, and subjected to involuntary transfers that damaged their careers. One whistleblower reported being removed from their position after alerting supervisors about sloppy contracting practices at the Department of Human Services. State Rep. Marion Rehrick stated that whistleblowers live in a state of fear and retaliation and that the Walls administration silenced those who tried to expose fraud. Also, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan was reported to a public referred to employees who raised concerns as weirdos in losers sitting in their mother's basements. Walls did acknowledge shortcomings in handling the fraudulent situation.
