The first permanent settlement in the New World was the English Jamestown in sixteen oh seven in Virginia. Like the charters of all the colonies, the first Charter of Virginia emphasized the Christian character of the colonist's purpose in life. Hello I'm ron Edwards on today's page from the Edwards Notebook. Similarly, in sixteen twenty, the Pilgrims established a colony at Plymouth, Massachusetts. Their purpose was to establish a political commonwealth governed by Biblical standards. The Mayflower Compact, their initial government document, clearly stated that they had undertaken what's for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith, along with standing for the unalienable rights of the people, which, by the way come from God. William Braffort, the second governor of Plymouth, stated, the colonists cherished a great hope and inward zeal of laying good foundations for the propagation and advancement of the Gospel of the Kingdom of Christ in the remote parts of the world, while establishing a beachhead of liberty in the New World.
