[00:00:04] American statesman Elias Boudinot Jr., who lived from 1740 to 1821, hailed from Elizabeth, New Jersey. Boudinot was an energetic patriot and an elected delegate to the Continental Congress from 1777 to 1784, serving as its president from 1782 to 1783. Hello, I'm Ron Edwards. On today's page from The Edwards Notebook, Boudinot also served three terms in Congress

[00:00:32] and ten years as Director of the Mint. He was also elected President of the American Bible Society at its founding in 1816. And accepting the office, he wrote, quote, This was the greatest honor that could have been conferred upon him this side of the grave. Boudinot had an unwavering faith that God had called the men of society to the work of making Bibles available in America.

[00:00:57] His $10,000 gift at a time when annual salaries of $400 was considered good, essentially enabled the formation of the organization of the American Bible Society, which still sponsors the work of Bible translation and distribution around the world. Hopefully, Bible reading and study will once again be commonplace around America, which was founded upon biblical principles. I'm Ron Edwards.
