[00:00:04] Across America, live, this is Point of View, Kirby Anderson.
[00:00:20] Thank you for joining me. It is the Wednesday edition of Point of View and I hope you're enjoying the Thanksgiving week.
[00:00:25] I suspect that some of you are listening to this program as you are driving to your venue or maybe some of you listening around the house as you are getting ready for Thanksgiving.
[00:00:34] But we're going to get into quite a number of issues in the news and this is maybe a little different.
[00:00:42] I've been known sometimes on the day before Thanksgiving to come into the studio dressed as a pilgrim to talk about Thanksgiving.
[00:00:49] I really have kind of a leisurely time but unfortunately there is a lot in the news we will be covering so we will postpone that till maybe next year.
[00:00:57] I'll start off with something very disturbing and that is nearly a dozen of the individuals that President-elect Donald Trump has tapped as cabinet nominees have been threatened.
[00:01:10] And this is something that is very concerned.
[00:01:13] Tuesday night the administration was reporting the fact that there were violent threats to the lives of some of those individuals
[00:01:21] and to giving credit where credit is due, swift law enforcement response.
[00:01:27] The attacks have ranged from bomb threats to swatting.
[00:01:32] If you're not familiar with swatting that's where often times you make some statement that requires the SWAT team to show up at your home.
[00:01:39] The individuals targeted that we know of include John Ratcliffe who is the nominee to be CIA director.
[00:01:48] Pete Hegseth who is the nominee to be Secretary of Defense.
[00:01:53] Representative Elaine Elise Stefanik who is of course a nominee for UN ambassador.
[00:01:59] And we also know some others who have revealed this.
[00:02:02] Brooke Rollins has been tapped as Secretary of Agriculture.
[00:02:05] Lee Zeldin the nominee for EPA.
[00:02:08] And again we will probably spend some time in the second hour today with our guest in studio Dr. Scott Coulter talking about some of these nominees.
[00:02:17] The FBI has issued a statement saying that the bureau was aware of these incidents.
[00:02:23] Here is their quote.
[00:02:24] The FBI is aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees.
[00:02:31] And we're working with our law enforcement partners.
[00:02:33] We take all potential threats seriously.
[00:02:35] As always encouraging members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement.
[00:02:42] Some of those were known.
[00:02:43] Others were reported.
[00:02:45] One of those is Lee Zeldin who said that a pipe bomb threat targeted me and my family at my home today.
[00:02:51] Was sent in a pro-Palestinian themed message.
[00:02:54] My family and I were not at home at the time and are safe.
[00:02:57] We're working with law enforcement to learn more of this situation.
[00:03:01] Something similar happened as I remember with a member of Congress Elise Stefanik.
[00:03:08] Her husband and her three-year-old son were driving from Washington to a particular place in New York, Saratoga County.
[00:03:15] I guess most people now know where she lives anyway.
[00:03:17] And they were informed of that threat as well.
[00:03:19] And of course these come on the heels as you might remember of two attempted assassination attempts.
[00:03:27] One that took place July 13th in Butler, Pennsylvania.
[00:03:31] Which of course we have talked about with some detail.
[00:03:35] And then the other one of course in September where a would-be assassin was found hiding in the bushes at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida.
[00:03:46] So this is of concern because certainly a presidential nominee, a vice presidential nominee and a couple of others are protected by Secret Service.
[00:03:57] I am unaware as to whether or not a UN ambassador or a secretary of agriculture is protected.
[00:04:05] I do know the secretary of defense is CIA once they are confirmed.
[00:04:09] But you can kind of see that this is a source of some concern.
[00:04:13] And we wanted to report that today.
[00:04:16] And of course we will follow it up.
[00:04:17] Tomorrow will be a tape program.
[00:04:19] But if of course anything happens over the weekend that we learn more about, we will certainly cover that on Monday.
[00:04:26] Let me also come to a couple of the articles I've posted since we will be doing two interviews today.
[00:04:32] One by phone and then of course the one I just mentioned in studio.
[00:04:35] And that is you may remember somebody that we've interviewed from time to time.
[00:04:39] James O'Keefe used to be with Veritas.
[00:04:41] Now he's with what's called the O'Keefe Media Group.
[00:04:45] And what I give you here is actually a very good summary done by our friend Bob Unruh at the World Net Daily.
[00:04:53] In which as you may know, James O'Keefe has been very successful over the years in going undercover.
[00:05:00] And doing some of these undercover interviews that you used to expect 20, 20, 60 Minutes and a variety of others would do.
[00:05:08] But they aren't doing those anymore.
[00:05:10] Especially when it might embarrass a liberal icon or a government program.
[00:05:16] But this particular one is the undercover video that comes from an individual who is the chief of health data standards branch for the UK and the National Library of Medicine.
[00:05:28] Who said, I don't even know if these vaccines stop you from getting COVID.
[00:05:33] They don't.
[00:05:35] He said, well, I probably shouldn't be saying this out loud.
[00:05:38] And then goes on to say, I don't even know if these vaccines stop you from getting COVID.
[00:05:43] We're going to learn about vaccine safety when it's too late, he said.
[00:05:48] He also went on to make some statements that Pfizer and Moderna are just getting a bunch of money from it.
[00:05:54] From all these vaccine mandates.
[00:05:56] Pfizer and Moderna went on to even admit that other vaccines, like say the measles vaccine or whatever, you have to go through several rounds of approval.
[00:06:05] But these were accelerated through their approvals.
[00:06:09] And so again, admitting what we've talked about on this program.
[00:06:14] As a matter of fact, some of the things that we used to say on this program got us in so much trouble that you really can't watch our videos anymore on YouTube because of that.
[00:06:23] And other people have been deplatformed for saying what now an individual at the NIH was actually saying.
[00:06:31] He went on to add a few other things, which we also knew.
[00:06:34] He said like the six foot rule, you know, you had to be six foot apart.
[00:06:37] He said, remember that?
[00:06:38] Well, that wasn't based on any real evidence that did anything.
[00:06:42] It was completely made up.
[00:06:44] And so I think it was interesting that he was again acknowledging some things that we've talked about on this program.
[00:06:52] And then one other one was about the origin of the virus.
[00:06:58] You've heard me talk about this.
[00:06:59] I can't even probably count the number of commentaries over the last almost four years that I've done talking about the very good evidence that it most likely did come from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
[00:07:14] And the argument that it came from the wet market or from animals did not make a good deal of sense.
[00:07:20] And I think it is interesting that he acknowledges now, of course, what just was acknowledged recently, quote, the National Institutes of Health earlier this year finally admitted to funding gain of function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which, of course, was ground zero of the COVID-19 pandemic, which, of course, contradicts.
[00:07:43] Well, for example, the comments by Dr. Anthony Fauci, who is the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and, of course, contradicts almost everything that was actually said during the pandemic.
[00:07:58] So, again, only years later do we have people maybe not admitting in public but admitting in private, which then became public in an underground interview that, you know, those vaccines, they probably don't work.
[00:08:15] As a matter of fact, we now know of all the adverse health aspects of it as well.
[00:08:21] So if you have not had a chance to see or hear some of the audio, I just give you a link to a very good kind of three-page summary of something that was revealed just yesterday.
[00:08:32] That comes from James O'Keefe and the group there at the O'Keefe Media Group.
[00:08:37] Let's take a break.
[00:08:38] We have a lot more to cover.
[00:08:40] We'll do that right after this.
[00:08:58] This is Viewpoints with Kirby Anderson.
[00:09:02] Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I suspect that you are doing lots of things to get ready for this special day.
[00:09:06] Let me suggest you add one more item to your to-do list.
[00:09:10] Visit our website and download a copy of my Thanksgiving quiz.
[00:09:13] Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather as a family, but I also believe that it can be a great time to teach our children and grandchildren about America's godly heritage.
[00:09:22] I created this short quiz to be a conversation starter around the Thanksgiving table.
[00:09:27] You know, we used to go around the table before the meal and ask our children to tell us what they were thankful for.
[00:09:33] After a few years of hearing about how they were thankful for their cat, their doll, their video games, I knew we needed to do something else.
[00:09:40] The Thanksgiving quiz was born out of that frustration.
[00:09:43] It has 19 questions and answers on the Pilgrims and the Mayflower Compact, as well as some questions and answers about the Christian heritage of America.
[00:09:50] Who were the Pilgrims, and why did they leave Europe for America?
[00:09:54] Why did they celebrate Thanksgiving?
[00:09:56] What is the Mayflower Compact, and why is it significant?
[00:09:59] What lessons did the Pilgrims learn about work and even free enterprise?
[00:10:02] How did the Christian faith influence America?
[00:10:05] These are just a few of the sort of questions that you can ask around the table and give short answers.
[00:10:09] Perhaps it is time to recapture the importance of Thanksgiving.
[00:10:13] On the bicentennial celebration of the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock, Daniel Webster declared the following,
[00:10:19] Let us not forget the religious character of our origin.
[00:10:22] Our fathers were brought hither by their high veneration for the Christian religion.
[00:10:26] They journeyed by its light and labored in its hope, and they sought to incorporate its principles with the elements of their society
[00:10:32] and diffuse its influence through all their institutions, civil, political, or literary.
[00:10:37] It is my hope that this quiz will help your family see the importance of Thanksgiving.
[00:10:41] I'm Kirby Anderson, and that's my point of view.
[00:10:47] Go deeper on topics like you just heard by visiting pointofview.net.
[00:10:53] That's pointofview.net.
[00:10:57] You're listening to Point of View, your listener-supported source for truth.
[00:11:03] Back once again, I'm up here enjoying the Thanksgiving weekend.
[00:11:06] In just a minute, I'm going to talk about our Thanksgiving quiz commentary.
[00:11:09] And tomorrow, of course, I have a commentary on Thanksgiving, so we will talk about that.
[00:11:13] And as a program note, let me just mention at the bottom of the hour, we're going to be talking with Ryan Brown.
[00:11:18] He's the CEO of Open Doors.
[00:11:19] We're going to be talking about the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church.
[00:11:23] Then next hour, we're going to have Dr. Scott Coulter with us.
[00:11:26] He is with the Danbury Institute and is an individual that has been working in this particular field.
[00:11:35] I had a chance to hear him with Jeff Shreve, and I thought it would be great for you to hear from him.
[00:11:40] He'll be in studio with us because he actually lives in Dallas.
[00:11:43] I only found that out during the interview, so we'll be able to talk to him not only about the Danbury Institute,
[00:11:49] but more importantly about some of these cabinet picks, what they mean and what they might mean for the future.
[00:11:55] But let me also point out that I've posted two other articles for you to look at if you have some time during this Thanksgiving week.
[00:12:02] And the first is by Rich Lowry.
[00:12:04] Mass deportation is an appropriate response to mass illegal immigration.
[00:12:10] Of course, on Monday, I had a commentary on deportation.
[00:12:14] And then on Tuesday in the last half hour, if you didn't have a chance to hear it,
[00:12:19] I went into what I would call a deep dive into what this is going to entail,
[00:12:26] some of the scenes really behind the scenes of what was taking place in some cases under the Biden administration
[00:12:33] and what would actually be taking place.
[00:12:36] And so then today, I wanted to add one more.
[00:12:39] This is by Rich Lowry, in which he says there's about to be an outbreak of lawfulness in the United States
[00:12:45] and Democrats and the press can't handle it.
[00:12:47] So President-elect Donald Trump's talk of mass deportation is being treated as a clear and present danger
[00:12:53] to the American order that blue jurisdictions need to mobilize to stop.
[00:12:58] And he gives us some of the quotes that you've heard before.
[00:13:01] The governor of the state of Illinois, J.B. Pritzker,
[00:13:03] I'm going to do everything I can to protect our undocumented immigrants.
[00:13:07] Well, yes, if they're undocumented, we want to treat them well.
[00:13:11] We are supposed to.
[00:13:12] But if they are criminals or they are national security threats, we need to remove them immediately.
[00:13:18] The mayor of Denver, Mike Johnston, says that what's going to happen is going to be something that looks like the Chinaman Square moment
[00:13:25] and has this idea that maybe there will be Denver police and civilian populations confronting federal immigration authorities.
[00:13:34] And so, again, the hue and cry, the hyperbole is, as I predicted in my commentary that you heard on Monday, already off the charts.
[00:13:45] But I thought it was interesting that Rich Lowry put it this way.
[00:13:49] It is a symptom of how perverse the immigration debate has become, that it is treated as a norm to allow millions of people to defy our laws.
[00:13:58] But it's a five-alarm fire if the incoming U.S. president vows to get serious about enforcing these same laws.
[00:14:06] And then points out something I mentioned yesterday, but now if you want to look at this article, we have some documentation.
[00:14:12] In the fiscal year of 2014, under President Obama, 316,000 illegal immigrants, illegal aliens, migrants, whatever you want to call them, were removed under President Obama.
[00:14:27] You've heard me say before that he was sometimes even chided and criticized by some of his liberal friends as being the deporter-in-chief.
[00:14:38] So, compare 316,000 illegal aliens who were removed to fiscal year 2020 under President Biden, 28,000.
[00:14:47] So, there is a difference between 300,000 and 28,000.
[00:14:51] And then, as a matter of fact, more recently, that number dropped even more so.
[00:14:55] And then only near the election did those increase, perhaps to make it look like we were doing something at the border.
[00:15:04] So, as he points out, that if indeed when Biden did increase deportations, because I think that got up to about 200,000 in fiscal year 2024,
[00:15:15] why can't Trump also increase them without creating a dystopia?
[00:15:20] And, of course, you've seen that before.
[00:15:21] When we saw these various cages that existed at the border, and I'm sure how many of them exist anymore,
[00:15:28] those were an illustration of how awful Donald Trump was, until somebody pointed out those cages were built under the Obama administration.
[00:15:38] And it was sort of ignored under the Obama administration.
[00:15:42] It's, as Rich Lauer called it, a five-alarm fire, if Trump does it.
[00:15:47] And so, just giving you a preview of what is probably going to unfold.
[00:15:51] And I thought it would be good for you to have some of this, because around the Thanksgiving table,
[00:15:56] if you have somebody that does not like the current incoming president, or the past president, Donald Trump,
[00:16:02] or is just fearful about deportation, I did want to give you some facts and figures to help maybe,
[00:16:09] for at least a fair-minded person, see that they may be overreacting for a lot of different reasons.
[00:16:15] But next hour, we're going to spend some time talking about these various cabinet posts.
[00:16:21] And one of the cabinets that may eventually be eliminated will be the Department of Education.
[00:16:28] So one of the other articles I've posted for you to read, if you would have some time,
[00:16:33] is the fact that the U.S. Department of Education was created in kind of the last year by Jimmy Carter.
[00:16:40] When Ronald Reagan came into office, there was a desire to eliminate this Department of Education,
[00:16:47] and that never happened.
[00:16:49] And so this particular article reminds us of the fact that we are talking about a department
[00:16:54] that employs more than 4,000 people.
[00:16:57] It uses more than $80 billion.
[00:17:01] And even though the amount spent in the Department of Education goes up every single year,
[00:17:08] the test scores keep going down.
[00:17:11] So if money equals success educationally, we don't see it so far.
[00:17:17] And so no one has been more of a proponent of allowing the Department of Education to fade away
[00:17:25] than a former Secretary of Education, and that would be Betsy DeVos.
[00:17:30] In this, for example, when she was asked in this particular interview, she said,
[00:17:35] I think you need to back up and start from asking the question,
[00:17:38] has the Department of Education actually been successful in its mission?
[00:17:43] And she said, I would say by any measure, no.
[00:17:46] It's been an abject failure.
[00:17:48] She goes on in the interview to say,
[00:17:50] and so looking at the failure after trillions of dollars spent
[00:17:54] and kids still in a downward trajectory,
[00:17:57] particularly following COVID academically,
[00:18:00] because that's another aspect of that as well,
[00:18:02] what you can do to depower this federal agency
[00:18:06] that is not aligned with what's right for kids,
[00:18:09] but is totally aligned around an agenda
[00:18:12] driven by what's right for adults and their issues.
[00:18:15] And so she really just kind of points out the fact that as many bureaucracies get implemented,
[00:18:23] they do spend more time making sure that they can secure their funding,
[00:18:28] keep everybody in place,
[00:18:29] and make sure that their agenda and goals are achieved,
[00:18:35] even if sometimes don't even align with the educational performance of the kids.
[00:18:41] Now, this particular article also points out that incoming President Donald Trump
[00:18:46] can't just snap his fingers and dissolve the department.
[00:18:51] Congress would have to pass that legislation,
[00:18:53] and even with a Republican-controlled House and Senate,
[00:18:56] it's not controlled by a large margin.
[00:18:59] Which gets to the other issue,
[00:19:01] because Betsy DeVos also goes on to say,
[00:19:03] you know, there may be some other solutions.
[00:19:05] One of those could be, of course,
[00:19:07] this idea of school choice that has been put forward before.
[00:19:09] And this particular article points out that in the past few years,
[00:19:13] a dozen states, including Arizona and Florida,
[00:19:16] have passed sweeping school choice reforms.
[00:19:19] Looks like Texas might do it in 2025, they mention,
[00:19:22] and that seems to be the case as well.
[00:19:25] And so she supports a federal school choice tax credit program
[00:19:29] and hopeful that Congress will take it up.
[00:19:31] This, if nothing else,
[00:19:33] just is at least, again,
[00:19:34] some information about whether or not the Department of Education
[00:19:38] will continue on.
[00:19:40] And if nothing else,
[00:19:41] if you wanted some of the facts and figures,
[00:19:43] in case you'd like to write a letter to the editor
[00:19:46] or contact your member of Congress
[00:19:48] or maybe even just engage in some conversation,
[00:19:51] that's on the website as well.
[00:19:54] One last one.
[00:19:55] My commentary today is about the Thanksgiving quiz.
[00:19:58] This is sort of an annual tradition.
[00:19:59] I put this together years ago out of frustration
[00:20:02] that oftentimes it was a little bit embarrassing
[00:20:06] how little our children knew about things like Thanksgiving.
[00:20:09] I think as I've developed this,
[00:20:12] I was reminded just the other day
[00:20:14] about the Thanksgiving proclamation by President Biden last year
[00:20:18] who said the pilgrims gathered together to thank the Indians.
[00:20:23] Well, maybe a little bit,
[00:20:24] but they also gathered together to thank the Lord.
[00:20:27] And so the fact that some of these ideas
[00:20:30] not only are not in the textbooks
[00:20:33] and are ignored in a lot of the public schools,
[00:20:36] but apparently aren't even well known by,
[00:20:39] I don't know,
[00:20:40] President of the United States.
[00:20:42] So today the commentary is on a Thanksgiving quiz,
[00:20:46] which you can download.
[00:20:47] Tomorrow my commentary is on Thanksgiving.
[00:20:49] And if you're looking for something
[00:20:51] that maybe you'd like to share
[00:20:52] around the Thanksgiving table,
[00:20:54] that's why we post these articles
[00:20:56] and these resources and these commentaries
[00:20:59] so that you can, in one way or another,
[00:21:02] use that, in some cases, to educate yourself.
[00:21:05] In other cases, educate your children and grandchildren.
[00:21:08] So those are some of the resources
[00:21:10] we've posted on our website today.
[00:21:12] It's at pointofview.net.
[00:21:15] We have a lot more we can say,
[00:21:16] but we now have a couple of guests
[00:21:18] we're going to have a chance to hear from.
[00:21:19] So we're going to take a break,
[00:21:20] come back and chat with them
[00:21:22] right after these important messages.
[00:21:30] The Bible tells us not to worry.
[00:21:33] And yet there is a lot of worrying stuff
[00:21:36] in our world today.
[00:21:38] Thankfully, the Bible doesn't stop
[00:21:41] at telling us not to worry.
[00:21:43] God gives us a next step.
[00:21:45] He says we need to pray.
[00:21:47] But sometimes even knowing what to pray
[00:21:50] can be difficult.
[00:21:51] And that is why Point of View
[00:21:54] has relaunched our Pray for America movement,
[00:21:57] a series of weekly emails
[00:21:59] to guide you in prayer for our nation.
[00:22:03] Each week, you'll receive a brief update
[00:22:05] about a current issue affecting Americans,
[00:22:08] along with a written prayer
[00:22:10] that you can easily share with others.
[00:22:13] We'll also include a short free resource
[00:22:16] for you in each email
[00:22:17] so you can learn more about the issue at hand.
[00:22:21] Will you commit to pray for America?
[00:22:24] Go to pointofview.net.
[00:22:28] Click on the Pray for America banner
[00:22:30] at the top of the page to subscribe.
[00:22:33] Again, that's pointofview.net.
[00:22:37] Click on the Pray for America banner.
[00:22:40] Let's pray together for God
[00:22:42] to make a difference in America.
[00:22:47] Point of View will continue after this.
[00:22:57] You are listening to Point of View.
[00:23:01] The opinions expressed on Point of View
[00:23:04] do not necessarily reflect the views
[00:23:06] of the management or staff of this station.
[00:23:09] And now, here again, is Kirby Anderson.
[00:23:13] We now bring to the microphone.
[00:23:14] Ryan Brown has been with us many times before.
[00:23:16] We're CEO of Open Doors,
[00:23:18] individual that previously served
[00:23:20] as the chief development officer
[00:23:22] for Food for the Hungry,
[00:23:23] graduate of Arizona State University.
[00:23:25] We're going to talk about, of course,
[00:23:27] the persecuted church.
[00:23:28] Also, the International Day of Prayer
[00:23:30] for the Persecuted Church
[00:23:31] is something that actually took place
[00:23:33] earlier this month.
[00:23:34] But I think it was so overshadowed
[00:23:37] by the election
[00:23:38] that although we mentioned it,
[00:23:40] we really didn't have a chance
[00:23:41] to go into it.
[00:23:41] So we still have a link here
[00:23:44] which you can find first
[00:23:45] to opendoorsus.org
[00:23:48] and then a link specifically
[00:23:50] to the 2024 International Day of Prayer.
[00:23:54] Even though it says
[00:23:55] the 2024 International Day of Prayer is over,
[00:23:58] don't stop praying for African Christians.
[00:24:00] And we're going to talk about that with Ryan.
[00:24:02] So welcome back to Point of View.
[00:24:04] Oh, thank you so much.
[00:24:05] It's an honor to be with you here today.
[00:24:07] You know, again, when that took place,
[00:24:09] I believe it was like November 3rd
[00:24:11] or something like that,
[00:24:13] we had election going on.
[00:24:14] I think we did mention it,
[00:24:16] but there were just so many other things going on
[00:24:18] that I think it would be good to come back
[00:24:20] and evaluate this
[00:24:21] because even though that date has passed,
[00:24:25] you do, as we have links there,
[00:24:27] have information for a sermon presentation,
[00:24:30] a digital flyer, even sermon notes.
[00:24:33] And even if indeed that maybe doesn't fit
[00:24:36] within maybe the Christmas calendar,
[00:24:39] since we're getting into December,
[00:24:40] you could certainly do a focus on this
[00:24:43] in terms of mission outreach.
[00:24:45] But talk about what is available
[00:24:47] if a church leader, pastor,
[00:24:50] would want to once again come back
[00:24:52] to this issue of persecuted Christians
[00:24:54] around the world.
[00:24:55] Yeah, no, I think you're exactly right.
[00:24:58] While the official day has passed,
[00:25:01] you know, the need and the opportunity for prayer,
[00:25:03] that never expires.
[00:25:05] So that's always before us.
[00:25:07] And so always an opportunity.
[00:25:08] In fact, there are many, many churches
[00:25:09] that I know of that specifically plan
[00:25:14] days of prayer and things like that
[00:25:16] outside of that opportunity.
[00:25:18] So, you know, these resources are presented
[00:25:21] in ways that, you know,
[00:25:24] hopefully are kind of evergreen
[00:25:26] that at any time that a church
[00:25:28] or a Bible study or even a family
[00:25:30] would want to engage in these things,
[00:25:32] there are opportunities to do so.
[00:25:34] But, you know, in there you'll certainly see,
[00:25:37] you know, one of the things
[00:25:39] that we always focus on
[00:25:41] is this idea of prayer
[00:25:43] and calling people to prayer
[00:25:46] and to engage in that way.
[00:25:49] And so you will certainly see
[00:25:50] prayer resources there.
[00:25:52] You will see, as you mentioned,
[00:25:54] sermon outlines, things with graphics,
[00:25:58] you know, things that you have flyers
[00:25:59] that can be printed out.
[00:26:01] You know, all of those types of things
[00:26:03] are made available,
[00:26:04] you know, even if you're wanting
[00:26:05] to post to social media
[00:26:07] or things like that
[00:26:08] for the people in your congregation,
[00:26:10] there are resources available to that.
[00:26:12] Thanks, we can.
[00:26:13] Also, while you go to that,
[00:26:14] a particular link that we have
[00:26:16] for the International Day of Prayer
[00:26:17] has a link to the World Watch list.
[00:26:19] And of course, we talk with you
[00:26:20] about that on a regular basis.
[00:26:22] I mention it with other guests
[00:26:24] that we have in studio or by phone.
[00:26:25] And there is a video
[00:26:27] that's about five minutes long
[00:26:29] that is available there.
[00:26:31] You can actually download
[00:26:32] that list as well.
[00:26:34] Now, I understand that the print copies
[00:26:35] are no longer available,
[00:26:36] but that's okay
[00:26:37] because you can get the digital copy
[00:26:39] and print it yourself.
[00:26:39] So that's another helpful resource
[00:26:42] for individuals
[00:26:43] that need to maybe be sensitized
[00:26:46] to what is happening around the world.
[00:26:48] We sometimes are in our comfort zone
[00:26:50] and we don't think about
[00:26:52] what is happening worldwide.
[00:26:54] And when you look at those major countries
[00:26:58] from North Korea,
[00:26:59] which has always been one
[00:27:01] where there is the most intense level
[00:27:03] of persecution,
[00:27:04] all the way through
[00:27:05] some of the Muslim countries,
[00:27:07] and then you end up with,
[00:27:08] of course, India and China and others,
[00:27:10] you recognize that,
[00:27:11] I guess the round numbers
[00:27:12] I keep hearing are
[00:27:13] 365 million Christians
[00:27:16] around the world
[00:27:17] suffer high levels
[00:27:18] of persecution and discrimination.
[00:27:20] Can you speak to that?
[00:27:22] Yeah, no, that's exactly
[00:27:24] what all of the research
[00:27:25] and the study would say
[00:27:27] from this last year.
[00:27:29] 365 million Christians
[00:27:31] around the globe
[00:27:33] experiencing those
[00:27:34] severe persecution and discrimination.
[00:27:37] And that discrimination
[00:27:38] looks different in every context.
[00:27:40] Each context that you mentioned there
[00:27:42] can look dramatically different.
[00:27:43] A place like North Korea
[00:27:45] where a Christian
[00:27:46] and their family
[00:27:48] can be imprisoned for life
[00:27:50] simply for having possession
[00:27:51] of the Bible
[00:27:52] to other places
[00:27:54] where that persecution
[00:27:55] is experienced much more
[00:27:56] as what we refer to
[00:27:58] as kind of a squeeze
[00:27:59] of persecution
[00:27:59] where, you know,
[00:28:01] Christians are denied access
[00:28:02] to things like employment
[00:28:03] or education opportunities
[00:28:05] and just make it
[00:28:07] nearly impossible
[00:28:08] for a family
[00:28:08] to survive
[00:28:09] in a particular area.
[00:28:10] And what happens
[00:28:12] is when the family
[00:28:13] is forced to leave
[00:28:14] that area
[00:28:14] to find, you know,
[00:28:16] an opportunity
[00:28:16] to provide elsewhere,
[00:28:18] that hurts the church
[00:28:19] in that area
[00:28:20] as, you know,
[00:28:21] Christians are forced
[00:28:22] to leave.
[00:28:23] And so, you know,
[00:28:23] an incredible opportunity
[00:28:24] to come alongside the church
[00:28:26] in those areas
[00:28:26] to stand with them
[00:28:27] and to, you know,
[00:28:29] provide things like
[00:28:30] livelihood trainings
[00:28:31] or other types of resources
[00:28:32] that allow the churches
[00:28:33] to stay rooted
[00:28:35] in those places
[00:28:36] and continue to be
[00:28:36] the hands and feet
[00:28:37] of Christ.
[00:28:38] And, you know,
[00:28:39] what's incredible
[00:28:39] is in so many
[00:28:40] of these places
[00:28:41] while, yes,
[00:28:42] the church is under
[00:28:43] incredible pressure
[00:28:44] and duress,
[00:28:45] the church is continuing
[00:28:46] to grow.
[00:28:47] The church, you know,
[00:28:48] Christians are continuing
[00:28:49] to be the light of Christ
[00:28:50] in these areas.
[00:28:52] Christ is not absent
[00:28:53] from these areas.
[00:28:53] Christ is present
[00:28:54] and Christ is working
[00:28:55] and this church is moving.
[00:28:57] Let's see if we can
[00:28:57] talk about how to get involved
[00:28:59] because we have
[00:28:59] an involved group
[00:29:00] of listeners
[00:29:01] and, of course,
[00:29:02] one of the obvious ones
[00:29:03] we just mentioned
[00:29:04] is pray,
[00:29:04] but also to give.
[00:29:05] You have church materials,
[00:29:07] resources,
[00:29:07] you even had a program
[00:29:09] called Arise Africa
[00:29:10] and I wanted you
[00:29:11] to maybe speak
[00:29:12] to all of those elements
[00:29:13] if you could
[00:29:14] kind of sequentially.
[00:29:16] Certainly.
[00:29:17] So, you know,
[00:29:18] those prayer resources,
[00:29:19] the World Watch List
[00:29:20] that you mentioned
[00:29:21] a few moments ago
[00:29:22] is a great way to start.
[00:29:23] You know,
[00:29:24] it's not just
[00:29:25] a factual presentation
[00:29:26] of materials,
[00:29:28] which it does.
[00:29:28] It does provide
[00:29:29] that information
[00:29:31] and talk about
[00:29:32] the realities
[00:29:32] that Christians face there,
[00:29:33] but it also provides
[00:29:35] very specific prayer points
[00:29:36] and these are prayer points
[00:29:38] as they've been,
[00:29:39] you know,
[00:29:39] vocalized and articulated
[00:29:40] by those
[00:29:42] that are experiencing
[00:29:43] persecution
[00:29:44] in those contexts.
[00:29:45] So these aren't just things
[00:29:46] that, you know,
[00:29:46] we're lifting up
[00:29:47] for our brothers and sisters.
[00:29:49] These are things
[00:29:49] that we're praying
[00:29:50] with our brothers
[00:29:51] and sisters.
[00:29:51] And so you'll see
[00:29:53] opportunities
[00:29:54] to download those.
[00:29:55] You can also sign up
[00:29:55] for weekly email lists
[00:29:57] that would provide things.
[00:29:58] You can download
[00:29:59] a copy of the daily
[00:30:00] prayer calendar
[00:30:01] as well.
[00:30:02] That's one that I just
[00:30:03] keep on my desk
[00:30:04] that, you know,
[00:30:05] every day I start
[00:30:06] with just a couple
[00:30:07] of sentences each day
[00:30:09] describing a situation
[00:30:10] in the country
[00:30:11] and providing a very
[00:30:12] specific prayer opportunity
[00:30:13] for that region
[00:30:14] or even for a very
[00:30:15] specific person
[00:30:16] within that region.
[00:30:17] So that's a great
[00:30:19] resource available
[00:30:20] for prayer there.
[00:30:22] There are opportunities
[00:30:23] to give.
[00:30:23] You'll see several
[00:30:24] of those, you know,
[00:30:25] as we head into
[00:30:25] the Christmas season
[00:30:26] as well.
[00:30:28] You know,
[00:30:28] there are even
[00:30:29] opportunities to,
[00:30:30] you know,
[00:30:31] support programs
[00:30:32] that, you know,
[00:30:34] will come alongside
[00:30:34] Christians this time
[00:30:36] of year.
[00:30:36] You know,
[00:30:37] that time where we
[00:30:38] celebrate Emmanuel,
[00:30:40] a God who is with us
[00:30:41] and a God who is present
[00:30:42] and not absent,
[00:30:43] a God that, you know,
[00:30:45] looked at us
[00:30:45] in, you know,
[00:30:47] the destruction
[00:30:47] of our sinful choices
[00:30:49] and, you know,
[00:30:50] breathed life
[00:30:51] into our lungs
[00:30:52] so that we could even
[00:30:52] call out his name.
[00:30:54] You know,
[00:30:54] he entered into our world
[00:30:56] and we celebrate that.
[00:30:57] And what an incredible
[00:30:58] opportunity
[00:30:58] to come alongside
[00:31:00] with presence
[00:31:01] with our brothers
[00:31:02] and sisters
[00:31:03] and provide
[00:31:04] for some of those
[00:31:05] resources
[00:31:06] or some of those
[00:31:07] needs
[00:31:08] and through resources.
[00:31:10] You know,
[00:31:11] one of the areas
[00:31:11] that you mentioned
[00:31:13] that, you know,
[00:31:14] there's been a
[00:31:15] multi-year trend
[00:31:16] in sub-Saharan Africa
[00:31:17] where we are just
[00:31:18] seeing that
[00:31:20] persecution
[00:31:22] increasingly
[00:31:23] turn violent.
[00:31:24] and, you know,
[00:31:26] what that looks like,
[00:31:28] you know,
[00:31:29] if you take a country
[00:31:30] like Nigeria,
[00:31:32] you know,
[00:31:32] this is a country
[00:31:33] where more Christians
[00:31:34] were martyred
[00:31:34] for their faith
[00:31:35] last year
[00:31:36] in that country
[00:31:36] than all other places
[00:31:37] in the globe combined.
[00:31:39] You know,
[00:31:40] the persecution
[00:31:41] certainly in martyrdom
[00:31:42] or physical assault,
[00:31:44] you know,
[00:31:44] the persecution
[00:31:45] takes place
[00:31:46] in the form
[00:31:47] of destruction
[00:31:48] of property
[00:31:48] or churches
[00:31:49] or, you know,
[00:31:50] Christian hospitals
[00:31:51] or Christian schools
[00:31:52] or their families
[00:31:53] that have, you know,
[00:31:55] had ancestral lands,
[00:31:57] you know,
[00:31:58] and they've farmed
[00:31:59] those lands
[00:31:59] for generations
[00:32:01] upon generations
[00:32:02] that have been
[00:32:03] forced to leave
[00:32:04] because of the insecurity
[00:32:07] and also where
[00:32:09] they have been
[00:32:09] targeted specifically
[00:32:10] because of their
[00:32:11] faith in Christ.
[00:32:13] And so, you know,
[00:32:14] when you take a look
[00:32:15] throughout the
[00:32:15] sub-Saharan Africa
[00:32:17] region right now,
[00:32:18] there are over
[00:32:18] 16.2 million Christians
[00:32:20] that have been displaced.
[00:32:22] They're living,
[00:32:23] you know,
[00:32:25] in internally,
[00:32:27] you know,
[00:32:27] camp encampments,
[00:32:28] ITP camps
[00:32:29] for internally
[00:32:30] displaced individuals.
[00:32:32] And so,
[00:32:33] you know,
[00:32:33] an incredible opportunity
[00:32:34] to come alongside
[00:32:35] the Arise Africa
[00:32:36] campaign specifically
[00:32:38] as, you know,
[00:32:40] we work with
[00:32:41] and alongside
[00:32:42] and support
[00:32:43] our brothers
[00:32:44] and sisters.
[00:32:45] You know,
[00:32:46] they have asked
[00:32:47] for the global church
[00:32:48] to step in,
[00:32:51] to lock arms
[00:32:53] with them,
[00:32:54] to let them know
[00:32:55] that they are not
[00:32:56] forgotten
[00:32:57] in what they
[00:32:58] are experiencing.
[00:33:00] You know,
[00:33:00] for an individual
[00:33:01] to be displaced
[00:33:02] from their home
[00:33:03] for, you know,
[00:33:04] five, six,
[00:33:05] seven years,
[00:33:06] it can start to feel
[00:33:07] somewhat hopeless.
[00:33:07] It can start to feel
[00:33:08] like, you know,
[00:33:10] people have not
[00:33:11] taken notice
[00:33:11] that you are alone
[00:33:13] in that.
[00:33:13] And so,
[00:33:15] we've committed
[00:33:15] to stand with
[00:33:16] the church
[00:33:17] and are inviting
[00:33:18] others to do
[00:33:19] the same.
[00:33:19] You know,
[00:33:20] globally,
[00:33:20] we are looking
[00:33:21] to have a million
[00:33:23] people sign on
[00:33:24] to a prayer petition
[00:33:26] inviting people
[00:33:27] to pray
[00:33:28] and lift up
[00:33:29] our brothers
[00:33:29] and sisters.
[00:33:30] Let me just mention
[00:33:30] we're going to a break.
[00:33:31] There's a place
[00:33:31] where you can sign up.
[00:33:32] First of all,
[00:33:33] there's a place
[00:33:33] you can sign up
[00:33:33] for emails
[00:33:35] and also sign up
[00:33:36] for that petition.
[00:33:36] So,
[00:33:37] you might want
[00:33:37] to check that out.
[00:33:38] We'll take a break.
[00:33:39] Come back with more
[00:33:39] with Ryan Brown
[00:33:40] right after this.
[00:33:55] You're listening
[00:33:55] to Point of View,
[00:33:57] your listener-supported
[00:33:59] source for truth.
[00:34:00] Continue the conversation
[00:34:01] for a few more minutes
[00:34:02] with Ryan Brown.
[00:34:03] Next hour,
[00:34:03] we'll have in studio
[00:34:04] with us Dr. Scott Coulter.
[00:34:05] I think you'll appreciate
[00:34:06] the conversation
[00:34:07] we're going to have
[00:34:07] with him.
[00:34:08] The Danbury Institute
[00:34:09] will look at some
[00:34:10] of those individuals
[00:34:11] that have been tapped
[00:34:12] to serve in the cabinet
[00:34:14] for Donald Trump.
[00:34:15] But again,
[00:34:15] as we talk about
[00:34:16] open doors,
[00:34:17] you can go to
[00:34:18] opendoorsus.org.
[00:34:20] There's a section there
[00:34:21] where it talks about
[00:34:21] prayer and praise.
[00:34:22] You can pray for everyone
[00:34:24] afflicted and affected
[00:34:25] by some of the things
[00:34:26] that are happening,
[00:34:27] whether, of course,
[00:34:28] this one talks about
[00:34:28] earthquakes in Turkey
[00:34:29] and Syria.
[00:34:30] You can give thanks
[00:34:31] for those families
[00:34:32] that actually have been
[00:34:35] dealing with bombings
[00:34:37] and things of that nature
[00:34:38] and persecution.
[00:34:39] And then you can,
[00:34:40] as we mentioned,
[00:34:41] subscribe to their
[00:34:42] weekly emails,
[00:34:43] or you can even add
[00:34:45] your name to that list.
[00:34:47] All of that can be found
[00:34:48] in the links
[00:34:49] that we've provided.
[00:34:49] But we also provide
[00:34:51] a link to the
[00:34:52] International Day of Prayer
[00:34:54] for the persecuted church.
[00:34:55] And if you scroll down,
[00:34:57] you will see
[00:34:57] that there are some ways
[00:34:59] in which you can get involved.
[00:35:00] And one of those,
[00:35:01] of course,
[00:35:01] has to do with
[00:35:02] the whole issue
[00:35:03] of Arise Africa.
[00:35:05] And that is,
[00:35:06] again,
[00:35:07] because of all the things
[00:35:08] that have been happening
[00:35:09] in sub-Saharan Africa,
[00:35:12] the incredible
[00:35:13] violent persecution,
[00:35:15] you can add your name
[00:35:16] to that list.
[00:35:17] You can click on the button
[00:35:19] to even find out
[00:35:20] how you can act now.
[00:35:22] And all of those resources
[00:35:23] are available
[00:35:24] at the website,
[00:35:25] pointofview.net.
[00:35:26] Of course,
[00:35:26] you can go immediately
[00:35:27] to Open Doors.
[00:35:29] So, Ryan,
[00:35:29] again,
[00:35:30] we want to encourage people
[00:35:31] to join with other voices
[00:35:34] and other individuals
[00:35:35] around the world
[00:35:36] that have been placing
[00:35:38] their attention,
[00:35:40] their prayers,
[00:35:41] and even their finances
[00:35:42] to try to help those
[00:35:43] who are in the
[00:35:44] persecuted church.
[00:35:45] Are those some
[00:35:46] action items
[00:35:47] you would recommend?
[00:35:49] Absolutely.
[00:35:50] I think,
[00:35:51] you know,
[00:35:52] our prayers,
[00:35:54] again,
[00:35:54] are first and foremost
[00:35:55] what our brothers
[00:35:56] and sisters ask for.
[00:35:58] I've heard over
[00:35:59] and over again
[00:36:00] the encouragement
[00:36:02] that it is
[00:36:02] for those
[00:36:03] that are experiencing
[00:36:04] persecution
[00:36:05] when they hear
[00:36:06] and when they learn
[00:36:07] that there have been,
[00:36:08] you know,
[00:36:08] brothers and sisters
[00:36:09] around the globe
[00:36:10] that have been
[00:36:11] lifting them up.
[00:36:12] You know,
[00:36:13] they draw so much
[00:36:14] encouragement
[00:36:15] from that.
[00:36:15] And so,
[00:36:16] you know,
[00:36:17] it is something
[00:36:18] that we need
[00:36:19] to be consistent
[00:36:20] and mindful of.
[00:36:21] But as well,
[00:36:22] you know,
[00:36:22] these opportunities
[00:36:23] to come alongside
[00:36:24] with other types
[00:36:26] of practical support
[00:36:27] with,
[00:36:27] you know,
[00:36:27] I take a look at,
[00:36:29] you know,
[00:36:30] we have a video
[00:36:30] on our site,
[00:36:31] a story of an individual
[00:36:34] named Pastor Barnabas
[00:36:36] and, you know,
[00:36:38] living there in Nigeria.
[00:36:40] His family has been
[00:36:41] living in a small,
[00:36:43] you know,
[00:36:44] makeshift tent
[00:36:45] alongside hundreds
[00:36:47] and hundreds
[00:36:47] of other
[00:36:48] makeshift tents,
[00:36:49] literally thousands
[00:36:50] of people
[00:36:50] crammed into this area.
[00:36:52] You know,
[00:36:53] there's not even
[00:36:53] enough room
[00:36:54] in this tent
[00:36:54] for his entire family
[00:36:55] to lay down at night
[00:36:56] so a couple of the kids
[00:36:57] have to,
[00:36:58] you know,
[00:36:59] sleep with neighbors
[00:37:00] just because
[00:37:01] the conditions
[00:37:02] are so tight.
[00:37:05] As we come alongside
[00:37:07] and are able
[00:37:07] to provide food aids
[00:37:09] or, you know,
[00:37:10] some of these blankets
[00:37:11] and things along
[00:37:12] those lines,
[00:37:13] you know,
[00:37:14] it is received
[00:37:15] with such joy
[00:37:16] and with such
[00:37:17] thanksgiving as well
[00:37:18] from believers.
[00:37:21] And again,
[00:37:21] it's not just the aid
[00:37:23] that is meaningful,
[00:37:24] but it's knowing
[00:37:25] that this is coming
[00:37:26] from, you know,
[00:37:28] that God has utilized
[00:37:29] and mobilized
[00:37:30] his church
[00:37:30] to provide
[00:37:31] and meet those needs.
[00:37:33] So,
[00:37:34] incredible opportunity
[00:37:35] to come alongside
[00:37:37] and support our brothers
[00:37:37] and sisters
[00:37:38] and remind them
[00:37:40] that they're not forgotten.
[00:37:42] Just before we let you go,
[00:37:43] one of the sections
[00:37:44] you have in your website
[00:37:46] is Go Deeper.
[00:37:47] Of course,
[00:37:47] there's a place
[00:37:48] for people to sign up
[00:37:49] for emails
[00:37:49] to download
[00:37:50] the World Watch list,
[00:37:52] but another is
[00:37:52] to meet Brother Andrew.
[00:37:54] And given the fact
[00:37:55] that we have
[00:37:55] a younger audience,
[00:37:57] I have found
[00:37:57] that sometimes
[00:37:58] when I mention
[00:37:59] Brother Andrew,
[00:37:59] I get a puzzled look
[00:38:01] because they never
[00:38:02] heard the story.
[00:38:03] And I think
[00:38:04] that is very helpful
[00:38:06] because in some respects
[00:38:07] you owe the history
[00:38:09] of Open Doors
[00:38:10] to this Dutch missionary
[00:38:12] who smuggled Bibles.
[00:38:14] I've had a chance
[00:38:15] to meet somebody
[00:38:16] that was one
[00:38:16] of his assistants
[00:38:17] who was engaged
[00:38:18] in doing that,
[00:38:19] sometimes in that VW bug,
[00:38:22] but all sorts
[00:38:23] of other ways.
[00:38:23] And that really
[00:38:24] is part of your history.
[00:38:26] And for a moment,
[00:38:27] would you maybe share
[00:38:28] a little bit of that?
[00:38:29] Because if people
[00:38:30] would like to know
[00:38:30] more about your history
[00:38:32] and how Open Doors
[00:38:33] came to be,
[00:38:34] it really goes back
[00:38:34] to Brother Andrew,
[00:38:35] doesn't it?
[00:38:36] It really does.
[00:38:37] I think that the thing
[00:38:38] that I so appreciate
[00:38:39] about his story
[00:38:41] and the example
[00:38:41] that he gives
[00:38:42] to all of us
[00:38:43] even today
[00:38:43] is that in many ways
[00:38:45] he was just
[00:38:45] an ordinary man.
[00:38:46] And he took
[00:38:48] the next ordinary
[00:38:49] step of obedience
[00:38:50] and as he continued
[00:38:51] to take those
[00:38:52] next ordinary steps
[00:38:53] of obedience,
[00:38:54] God did extraordinary
[00:38:55] things.
[00:38:56] And so he was,
[00:38:58] as a young man,
[00:39:00] he traveled to Poland
[00:39:02] in 1955,
[00:39:03] nearly 70 years ago.
[00:39:05] And as he met
[00:39:05] the church there
[00:39:06] and realized
[00:39:06] that they didn't have
[00:39:07] access to the Word
[00:39:08] of God
[00:39:08] and the difficulties
[00:39:10] that they had
[00:39:12] behind the Iron Curtain
[00:39:13] to get access
[00:39:16] to those things,
[00:39:17] he began this process
[00:39:18] of smuggling Bibles
[00:39:20] and it was,
[00:39:21] you know,
[00:39:22] it was very much
[00:39:23] a ministry
[00:39:26] that just saw
[00:39:27] God's provision
[00:39:28] in so many ways,
[00:39:30] you know,
[00:39:30] the provision
[00:39:30] of a little blue
[00:39:31] Volkswagen Beetle
[00:39:32] that they utilized
[00:39:34] to smuggle
[00:39:35] literally thousands
[00:39:36] and thousands
[00:39:36] of Bibles
[00:39:37] across the border
[00:39:38] to our brothers
[00:39:40] and sisters.
[00:39:41] As, you know,
[00:39:42] he continued
[00:39:43] to do that work
[00:39:45] and stay faithful,
[00:39:46] God grew that work
[00:39:47] and, you know,
[00:39:48] allowed, you know,
[00:39:49] networks and relationships
[00:39:50] and began to realize
[00:39:51] that, you know,
[00:39:52] it was not just here
[00:39:53] where the church
[00:39:54] was experiencing persecution
[00:39:56] or was suffering
[00:39:58] in these ways.
[00:39:59] And so he came
[00:40:00] alongside the church
[00:40:02] and many other areas.
[00:40:03] Some listeners
[00:40:05] may be familiar
[00:40:05] with an event
[00:40:06] in the early 80s
[00:40:09] in which a team
[00:40:10] of folks
[00:40:11] in the context
[00:40:12] of one evening
[00:40:13] smuggled a million
[00:40:14] Bibles
[00:40:15] into China,
[00:40:17] endeavor we call
[00:40:18] Project Pearl
[00:40:19] in which they
[00:40:20] took a barge
[00:40:21] and wrapped
[00:40:22] the Bibles
[00:40:23] so that they
[00:40:23] would float
[00:40:24] and push them
[00:40:25] into a harbor
[00:40:26] right under the nose
[00:40:27] of, you know,
[00:40:29] all of the
[00:40:30] military watch
[00:40:32] and things
[00:40:32] along those lines.
[00:40:33] And a million
[00:40:34] Bibles were provided
[00:40:35] and sparked
[00:40:37] something incredible
[00:40:38] there in China
[00:40:39] in the early 80s
[00:40:40] that led to revival
[00:40:41] throughout the country.
[00:40:42] So just a long
[00:40:44] legacy of faithfulness
[00:40:45] and seeing God
[00:40:46] work in incredible ways.
[00:40:48] Again, we have
[00:40:48] a link to Open Doors.
[00:40:49] I would encourage
[00:40:50] you to take action items.
[00:40:51] And if nothing else,
[00:40:53] Ryan, I want to wish
[00:40:54] you a happy Thanksgiving
[00:40:55] and thank you for joining
[00:40:56] us today here on
[00:40:56] Point of View.
[00:40:58] Thank you so much.
[00:40:59] The privilege is mine.
[00:41:00] Happy Thanksgiving
[00:41:00] to you and to all
[00:41:01] your listeners as well.
[00:41:02] Let me just mention
[00:41:03] in a few minutes
[00:41:04] we're going to have
[00:41:04] Dr. Scott Coulter
[00:41:05] in studio,
[00:41:06] but one more time
[00:41:07] let me point you
[00:41:07] to my commentary today.
[00:41:09] Thanksgiving,
[00:41:10] of course,
[00:41:10] is tomorrow
[00:41:11] and I know you
[00:41:12] probably have a lot
[00:41:12] of things you're
[00:41:13] focused on right now,
[00:41:14] but sometimes
[00:41:15] when you gather
[00:41:15] around the table,
[00:41:16] I've often found
[00:41:17] that this Thanksgiving
[00:41:18] quiz can be a good
[00:41:19] conversation starter.
[00:41:21] When I used to ask
[00:41:22] my kids what they
[00:41:23] were thankful for,
[00:41:24] their cat,
[00:41:25] their doll,
[00:41:25] their video games,
[00:41:26] I said,
[00:41:27] okay, we need to
[00:41:27] do something else here.
[00:41:28] That was born out
[00:41:29] of that to really
[00:41:31] provide a chance
[00:41:32] to maybe talk
[00:41:33] a little bit
[00:41:33] about the pilgrims,
[00:41:34] a little bit about
[00:41:35] the Mayflower Compact,
[00:41:37] a little bit about
[00:41:37] the Christian heritage
[00:41:38] of America.
[00:41:40] So, I give you
[00:41:41] a number of questions
[00:41:42] that you can ask,
[00:41:43] some of them
[00:41:43] pretty simple,
[00:41:44] some of them
[00:41:44] a little more detailed,
[00:41:45] and of course,
[00:41:46] then in this commentary,
[00:41:48] I also give you
[00:41:49] a quote from
[00:41:50] Daniel Webster,
[00:41:51] who on the 200th
[00:41:53] anniversary,
[00:41:53] the bicentennial,
[00:41:55] the landing
[00:41:55] of the pilgrims,
[00:41:56] that would be
[00:41:56] in 1820,
[00:41:58] just think about that,
[00:41:59] because now we're
[00:42:00] 400 years past it,
[00:42:01] but anyway,
[00:42:03] Daniel Webster said,
[00:42:04] let us not forget
[00:42:05] the religious character
[00:42:06] of our origin.
[00:42:07] Our fathers were
[00:42:08] brought hither by
[00:42:09] their high veneration
[00:42:10] for the Christian
[00:42:11] religion.
[00:42:11] They journeyed by
[00:42:12] its light and labored
[00:42:14] in its hope.
[00:42:14] They sought to
[00:42:15] incorporate its
[00:42:16] principles with the
[00:42:17] elements of their
[00:42:18] society and to
[00:42:19] diffuse its influence
[00:42:20] through all their
[00:42:21] institutions, civil,
[00:42:22] political, or literary.
[00:42:24] The quiz is available
[00:42:26] for you today,
[00:42:27] and then tomorrow,
[00:42:28] of course,
[00:42:28] I have a commentary
[00:42:29] that tells you a
[00:42:30] little bit of the
[00:42:31] story of that first
[00:42:32] Thanksgiving,
[00:42:33] and those are
[00:42:33] resources we posted
[00:42:34] on our website
[00:42:35] at pointofview.net.
[00:42:37] Feel free to use
[00:42:39] those to reprint
[00:42:40] them, and we
[00:42:41] certainly want you
[00:42:42] to use this one
[00:42:44] opportunity to talk
[00:42:45] about America's
[00:42:47] godly heritage.
[00:42:48] Fourth of July is
[00:42:49] another great
[00:42:49] opportunity.
[00:42:50] Thanksgiving is one
[00:42:51] of those.
[00:42:52] Don't miss those
[00:42:52] strategic opportunities.
[00:42:54] They can be a
[00:42:55] great teaching
[00:42:56] moment.
[00:42:56] When we come
[00:42:57] back, we're going
[00:42:57] to be privileged
[00:42:58] to have the head
[00:42:59] of the Danbury
[00:43:00] Institute, Dr. Scott
[00:43:01] Coulter.
[00:43:02] All that coming
[00:43:02] up right after
[00:43:04] this.
[00:43:10] Many years ago,
[00:43:12] they began saying
[00:43:12] that we live in
[00:43:13] the information age.
[00:43:15] Well, today, there
[00:43:16] is so much
[00:43:17] information coming
[00:43:18] at us from every
[00:43:19] direction.
[00:43:20] The hardest thing
[00:43:21] is to discern which
[00:43:23] issues are really
[00:43:24] important, and how
[00:43:25] can I make a
[00:43:26] positive impact
[00:43:27] without wasting my

[00:43:29] figure out accurate
[00:43:31] information.
