Well, that's what I figured. What it is, Paul, is that nowadays kids get 75 cents a week allowance instead of 25 cents. 75 cents, that's a lot of money.
[00:00:36] And in a year's time, I'd come to see this 52 weeks in a year. It comes to around $40 a year. There are no rules for paws and sons. It's as simple as this. Each mother or father raises his boy or girl, as the case may be, the way that he thinks is best. And I think it's best for you to get a quarter and work for it. You see, when you give something, in this instance, clean the garage,
[00:01:05] and you get something in return, like a quarter, well, that's the greatest feeling in the world. You do feel good after working, don't you? Uh-huh. Good and tired. Well, as you get bigger, well, you'll be doing more and more work for more and more return, and that good feeling will get bigger. Do you understand what I mean? I'm not going to get 75 cents. And I have to work for the 25. Right. All clear to you? Yeah.
[00:01:33] The bigger you get, the tireder you get. Oh, boy, that's for sure. Welcome back. Last hour on a Monday. But you know what? I wanted to have a little diversion from politics. And I know that money's on your mind, the economy, and how to dig your way out. And, you know, all of us are susceptible. We all, at times, have to figure out what are we going to do as a side hustle? What can you do?
[00:02:01] And maybe you have a job that has the insurance you need and all those types of things, but you're still looking for some extra bucks, of course. Right? I don't even have to preface this hour because I know you get it. I know you know. So here's the deal. I really need input from you on this hour. I want to know what works, what you've done, how you've made your side hustle happen, working from home, all the different things that you've been doing, because I think that's going to be an important part is to hear some input from you.

And what kind of got me going on this, hat tip, Eric, by the way, was, you know, Sam's Club plans to remodel all 600 of its existing locations in the coming year. And the biggest change to what people are going to notice about this is the fact that they aren't including cashiers. All self-checkout. Okay.
[00:02:58] They'll be like people that assist. Okay. So they'll have those individuals, but it won't be, it won't be the same. You know, you won't have somebody actually running that through the register or anything like that. And so those jobs would go by the wayside and they're going to use the scan and go technology. Now, it's going to be interesting to see this roll out.
[00:03:20] I think there's going to be a lot more of this happening where people are just sort of edged out slowly out of their jobs for technology, right? AI-powered technology or whatever you want to call it. Okay. So how do you beat them at their own game? What can you do to supplement or make some money right now and have something growing that's actually going to work? Not in the theory, but things that people are doing.
[00:03:44] And so for the last week or so, I have been really compiling a lot of different things that people are doing. And sometimes it'll make you $500 a month and sometimes it can make you $10,000 a month. It kind of depends on how much work you want to put into it. But I do want your phone calls, 888-673-1450. And let me know if you've had a side hustle that's brought anything in. Maybe it's only brought you a couple hundred bucks, but hey, it was worth doing.
[00:04:12] And as you can imagine, there's an awful lot of things to do. So let me get started flipping products on eBay or Marketplace. Now, a lot of times what people don't realize is that you can actually flip, say, a sofa, a couch. You can actually go, if you don't have any money at all, you can actually go to the free section of Marketplace on Facebook. And so this would require that you probably have a phone and have that downloaded at least.
[00:04:41] But you can actually go to Craigslist too. And you can check out free items, take those, clean them up, or maybe it's a barbecue grill. Maybe it's a couch. Maybe you have the skills to maybe redo that couch. Or just post it. Take it, post it, and sell it. And that is an instant way to get money. Anyone can do that. You probably would need access to, say, a truck or something like that. But it's a great way to get kind of rolling if you had no money. Okay?
[00:05:11] So there's that. And there's also places called, like, ShareTown. You might want to look that up. ShareTown. Okay? And they facilitate returns for online furniture companies. So you become a member of ShareTown. You have an account there. And you can actually go pick up furniture companies. Go to this type of app, you know, ShareTown. And they say, okay, we had a piece of furniture returned. It has no packaging whatsoever. And you can come pick this up.
[00:05:41] And then we'll split the proceeds with you if you sell it. 50-50. Not bad. Not bad. I'm just saying, hey, it's an interesting way to go. And I don't think most people even realize that that is there. Okay? And so if you're going to go on Craigslist, the things that sell that you could probably make pretty good money on doing anything like this would be go to garage sales, pick up high-end baby items, electronics. You can go to the Deseret Industries or DIs or Salvation Army.
[00:06:11] Or you can do even selling lawnmowers. Right? Now we're heading into spring. We're into spring right now. Heading into summer. And so maybe it is you're fixing lawnmowers that people are giving away for free and you're selling them. So there you go. There's one way to make money if you didn't have really anything and you just want to go to the free section. Or you want to pick something up for a discount and turn and burn it and sell it for a profit. There's one way to do it. Another way is to go into... Here's another one.
[00:06:41] You go into Indeed.com. Okay? This is a place for jobs. Job listings. Indeed. I-N-D-E-E-D. Okay? Indeed.com. And you type in contract work and stuff will come up in your local area like home delivery or somebody needs a grocery shopper or office assistant part-time, even working from home.
[00:07:03] So here's another way to get some remote work or work in person, like picking up somebody's groceries, things like that, which you could do in your local area through Indeed.com. And all you're going to type in is contract work. And that's just short-time contract work. Okay? So that can give you something that you can do in your spare time. Another way to do it is Etsy. Now, Etsy.com is a website for people that make things. Okay?
[00:07:33] And then they turn and they sell them and they create a free store on Etsy.com. And this is worldwide. So you have a worldwide audience that already is going to Etsy.com for products. And so you become one of these stores. One of the ways to do this was to... This is so crazy, you guys. This is so crazy. But listen to me on this one. Because people are doing this. They're going into AI. And in AI, they're saying, okay, like chat GPT or AI program.
[00:08:02] And they're saying, design me some designs. Okay? So then all of a sudden, you're getting all these designs. And you're copying those into a digital folder. And if you don't know how to do this, get one of your kids or grandkids or whatever to create this digital folder for you. Really, what you're going to do is make a PDF of these digital files. They go on. So these are all free. Then they go on to Etsy. They create a store name. Okay?
[00:08:29] And people go and buy these big packets of information. These big packets of illustrations or pictures for posters or t-shirts or what have you. And you're basically selling a digital file. That's it. You're just selling a digital file. You're not having to package anything. You don't have to buy anything. You're basically just doing this online. You're creating a free store. I mean, a store on Etsy that's free.
[00:08:54] And then you go in and you can actually find there's websites. And you can Google this to look up what products are selling the most. Is it embroidery? Is it t-shirts? Is it like whatever it is? And you can create digital files and then turn around and sell just the digital file. So basically, you're selling a link to a PDF.
[00:09:19] And if you have anyone in your vicinity that actually loves computers and can understand what I'm talking about, this would be a really good thing to do in order to just create something that could start making money. Because you've created it once. You're creating a PDF file of a thousand images that somebody can have if they make t-shirts. And you're posting that online and you're saying on Etsy, people are already going to Etsy. They already know about Etsy.
[00:09:47] So you don't really have to market it that way. But there's a lot of ways to do this in which you look up keywords that people are already searching to put into your biography, your profile. So that your store comes up when people search for these items. And you create the product once, create a PDF, sell it online, and you're not really ever packaging anything or selling anything that you've had to go acquire. Okay? So a pretty good way.
[00:10:16] Here's another one. Utilizing Costco. There's a lot of items that end. Okay? And so they're tagged in a certain way that you can see that they're probably not going to carry that item anymore, so they've marked it down. This is a great thing to do if you want to go acquire those products and sell them on a, get a free Amazon account. I am not crazy about Amazon, but a lot of people going there, so I'll give you this one. And it's basically you're reselling on Amazon.
[00:10:45] You're basically hiking the price up. Give yourself at least a 30% margin. And you're selling it on Amazon. And a lot of people that can't go to Costco, aren't near a Costco, want these products like, let's say, Coco or different products that come up that people love, right? But they can't get them for a pretty decent price. And you're getting it for a killer price. You're turning around and you're selling that product. So that would be acquiring products.
[00:11:13] But if you live near a Costco, if you have a Costco membership, this might be something good to do online right there. And you can resell it right there on Amazon and make a profit. So I like that. I thought that was a good one. And, of course, phone lines are open, 888-673-1450. [00:11:41] Another thing you can do that we did in the past, actually, I have personal experience with this. We had a Japanese exchange student. And she was awesome. She was quiet. She was respectful. She was sweet. And she was in college. So what they do is they come over here. They go to school. And then, of course, their parents foot the bill for them to live somewhere. So they're paying a pretty good price for a room. Sometimes they come over and buy a car.
[00:12:08] And the foreign exchange programs in college, because they're a little older, you're not carting them around everywhere, in other words. But they basically have access to modes of travel. And so it makes it a lot easier. But rent out a room and have two people bunk in that room. There's a lot of things you could do with an extra room in your house. And Airbnb-ing it or all kinds of people have a basement. Airbnb the basement. Or have a young couple rent it.
[00:12:36] There's a great way to get money and get money quick and get money monthly. So there you go. There's some ways. I'll be right back. I've got so much more. And sometimes it's just getting an idea to kind of just think outside the box a little bit to understand, you know, things that we could actually do. So let me take a phone call real quick. [00:17:30] 888-673-1450. Another one you can do, you might not have the equipment so you can actually rent, you know, line up some contracts and rent a U-Haul once a week for this. But you can do junk removal. And a lot of people don't even think about that because they go, well, I don't have a I don't have like massive truck. I don't have massive trailers or anything to do that.
[00:17:51] But you could line up all the contracts like let's say on a Saturday and then buzz around and go get people's junk and basically do junk removal. And sometimes it's just letting people know that you do it either on Facebook or social media or what have you or even just putting an ad ad out. Sometimes, you know, people will people will gravitate toward that. But also cutting firewood. I know people that do that as a second stream of income. They go, they do the firewood and they deliver a cord of wood.
[00:18:20] And so that is a great thing to be able to do. Do it. I think that's awesome. And of course, we went through Airbnb and foreign exchange students. If you have an extra room in your house that you're not using, what a great way to make some money. OK, so always be open to that. I think it's I think that's totally, totally amazing. So we have also vending machines. You can own and operate a vending machine. People still use coins. They still buy from these things.
[00:18:50] And it's not a bad way to do it. Vending machines. Still, I knew a guy in high school. I'm serious. He drove a vet. He drove a Corvette in high school, which was a big deal. OK, in the 80s. And he made over a million dollars doing vending machines. And this was clear back in the day. From there, he went to going to over into Asia and China everywhere to buy up Levi's and then selling them in the United States for quite a bit. Huge amount of money.
[00:19:19] But just that in just thinking, you know what? Vending machines. I can do this. This is something I can do with my kids. I can teach them how to make money. I can. This is like a project. I remember in the 70s, my parents had us putting Velcro, these stickers, these Velcro stickers on these these balls for a game. Right. It was it was like a target game. And I remember we had these big boxes and you would you would put that those stickers on all like the size of a golf ball. Right.
[00:19:49] And these plastic balls. And I just remember that's how we made Christmas money. And I remember doing that as a youth, my brother, my sister and I. And so there are so many different things that you can actually do like this that actually teach your kids how to make money, too. And that they can participate in the in the family financial dynamic. You know what I mean? So that's nice. I think those are there's always things like that that you can do. You can also do an online course.
[00:20:17] Now, maybe you're really good at something, you know about something. And this is a great way. I'm going to tell you where to go for that and how to list that online course and tell you how to do it when I get back. There's I have so much more. So don't go anywhere. There was a report about the supply chain that did not look good. And it was the outbound tender volume index. Okay. And it was developed by front wave sonar. And it's a key metric that measures the volume of electronic load from shippers to truckload carriers for transporting goods across the United States.
[00:21:56] And it serves with real time. And it serves with real time indicator of trucking demand.
[00:22:26] Make sure you have scripts in refills. Make sure you have scripts in refills. Make sure you have those things on hand. Antibiotics are always a good thing to barter with. And you can get Z-Packs and all the rest. Make sure you have refills. Make sure you have those things. And here's the deal, too. Be making money right now. This is a good time to launch into something. Do something that's going to start creating money, you know, monthly.
[00:22:51] And sometimes, even in the side hustle, it's, you know, you might make money immediately with some of these things. It might take a month or two. But at least you're setting it in motion. And I thought that was the most important part there. And if supply chains are going to be really rough this fall, we need to prepare for that. Prepare for that right now by maybe making some extra money so that you can, you know, shore yourself up on having some items around the house.

[00:23:45] I told my boys, each one of you has to have a trade that you can do. And they did. They actually did. Well, that's what I did, too. Yep. Love it. Thank you. Great advice, by the way, because it really is no matter what, you can find a way to do that trade, even in a really, really, really rough economy. So I always love that. Okay. So do you guys remember the show Undercover Billionaire? And they would drop a billionaire in an area with no money.
[00:24:13] And they said, you know, and these are great episodes to actually watch with your kids and grandkids because the you can still get them on YouTube, I think, too. But the Undercover Billionaire Show and how they would do it. They'd have 90 days to create a successful company, but they literally had zero money. They just had vision, I think it was, and ideas in order to make money fast. And I remember one time this guy bought a used car and sold it and made, I think it was $1,000.
[00:24:41] He charged $1,000 extra, but he sold it. He took a car from an area that wasn't so great and then put it for sale in an area a little more upscale, sold it for an extra $1,000. And he had $1,000 to start with, like $1,000 immediately that he could divest again into certain things. So it's so good to learn from those guys. And truly, there are so many videos right now that teach you a myriad of things to do. So another one would be growing food and selling it.
[00:25:10] You could do that if you're really good at gardening. Making sourdough bread. Sourdough's a hit right now, and it is amazing. I actually buy sourdough bread from a friend that makes wonderful sourdough bread. And I'm telling you, there's money to be made there if you really want to do that. Also, setting up, like let's say you know how to do a skill. You can remove trees. You can come over and kind of ascertain somebody's air conditioning if they need a new one.
[00:25:38] I mean, there's so many different things that you could do. Even in any kind of light construction around a home or fix-it stuff, anything. But you can actually upload you and your skills, your biography for work, and name your hourly rate at a place called Upwork. Upwork.com. Okay? It's a great way to be seen. People know to go there when they're looking to hire somebody. And you can do things online, too.
[00:26:08] Now, if you had a skill in something, like let's say you knew you could tell people to solve a problem, because it's always going to be about solving a problem for somebody else. Let's say that you were very good at travel. Okay? And you knew exactly where to travel, the best little things that you should know about traveling. Or let's say that, you know, this is what you look for when you're going to hire somebody to do X, Y, Z. Let's just say that you have some sort of something that people always ask you about. Okay? And you can answer those things.
[00:26:37] There is a website called Udemy. So it's U-D, as in David, right? E-M, as in Mary, Y. Udemy. And there's also teach with a colon, able. So teachable, but it's separated by a colon. So teach, colon, able. Okay? Also, Coursera, like you're going to take a course. Okay? Coursera. So it's C-O-U-R-S-E-R-A.
[00:27:05] So S-O-U-R-S-E-R-A. You can actually upload and put on there that you have this course, and you can charge for this course. You want to charge $100 or $50 or $150 or whatever, you've already gotten on your phone and recorded it. You've uploaded it, and you can actually do a course online. Okay? Hi, caller. [00:27:31] When we have time, I'll share with you a couple of examples of two people. I've passed off opportunities that I had. They're now multimillionaires, retired, and their family's doing extremely well. But right now, people that are handymen, instead of running your ads, do this. Go to any McDonald's where there's a senior meeting, usually about somewhere between 8 and 10 o'clock. You'll see in the back area, people in their 70s and 80s that just hang out, drink coffee, and hang out.
[00:28:01] Yeah, sure. So you go sit with them and talk to them, introduce yourself, and you're going to find out that a lot of these people don't have children that are there to help them. They've gone and moved away, or they're completely incapable or unwilling to help do anything like wash their dog, cut their grass, check their oil, change the oil. And you can say, look, for X amount of dollars, I can come by and do that. It costs you nothing to advertise, maybe buy a cup of coffee. So true. But you can network.
[00:28:29] And there are people that have excessive amounts of resources that need a valet, a butler, whatever you want to call it. And if you hook up with these people and you meet the right people, that's a gig that basically will pay you an annual salary off the books. Yeah. I love it. And it's quite nice. Sometimes you get to move in with them and take control over everything, and you do quite nicely. Thanks. Last tidbit. Thank you.
[00:28:59] Yeah. Don't do that. But yes, on the marketing thing, I totally agree. Totally agree. You can also do tutoring online. And I don't know if you know this, but you can actually, there are tutor groups online that you can go to. You can do online skills, math, English, you name it. You can do all of it online. All it takes is sometimes a $75 camera on your computer. Very easy to install. You just plug it in, and you can do online tutoring.
[00:29:28] And you can set your kids up and doing online tutoring as well. And so people are charging, you know, 50 an hour, 100 an hour. Also in groups. They're doing it in groups so that you can do it to, say, five people. They can get some friends. And then you can charge them a little bit less. But then you're making 300 an hour. Okay. So there's that. Car detailing. All kinds of things that you can do in that regard. Also, Amazon reviews.
[00:29:53] So you can actually get paid in product and then eventually become part of Amazon Vine, which is a little bit more upscale program. But you can actually get paid to do these honest reviews. So people are making money every month by doing reviews. You just, you can do reviews for Walmart or Kohl's or, I mean, Target, all of these different places, not just Amazon.
[00:30:21] But there are ways to get free product. And then there are ways to get paid. And all you have to do is start Google searching it. There are lots of videos out there where people have done it. They show you how to do it. There's just a lot of ways to make money. There really is. It doesn't require a whole lot. [00:32:11] So, there's a couple. Let me go into a couple more things while I've got some time here for a second. So, put an ad in the senior citizen publications in your area. Because maybe you want to help with changing a ceiling light bulb. Or pick up scripts for somebody. Or take them to the store. Whatever the case may be, there's a lot of help needed. There's a lot of families out there with somebody in assisted living.
[00:32:37] Or lots of different kinds of places where they really just need help. Like for an hour a day. Or just need somebody to come over to do something they can't do. And people are charging $15, $20 an hour for that. And that could be something that you design when you work. Right? You say what your hours are. And maybe it's something that you just do on the weekend. You'll meet a lot of nice folks too. The other thing is an e-book. Nowadays, what people are doing is they're taking something that they know about. Something that they're asked about all the time.
[00:33:06] And they are doing kind of like a talk to text program on their computer. And you just start talking about it. And then you ask AI to format it with chapters or whatever into a format. And kind of clean it up if you're not a writer. Okay? So people do not have to know how to write to do this. But they're doing this. They're doing these e-books. They're making them like 10 to 13 pages. So they're a quick read. And selling these e-books. And it is a good idea.
[00:33:35] If you have something that you can solve a problem for somebody. Or, you know, it could even be as dumb as get somebody to fall in love with you. Whatever the case may be. Whatever. You're Casanova. Whatever you're good at. And putting that into a 10 to 13 page. That way it's already done. There's actually websites like Canva that people use for free that format it into a book. And into an e-book with illustrations and everything. And it's free to do. And then you pop that up on.
[00:34:05] There's a myriad of websites for e-books. And you start selling it. And you don't have to have a tremendous amount of people, you know, on tap to do it. But I thought it was a really, really good idea of just finding out something that you can do. Hi, caller. Welcome to the show. Go right ahead. Yes. There's also the Secret Shoppers. Oh, yes. My son started doing it a month ago. And they get to even get free food while they assess the restaurants and the workers and such. I love it. I love that. I love that idea.
[00:34:35] Thank you. The Secret Shopper idea. It's fantastic. Also, online data entry. You're going to make about 15 bucks an hour. You go to these websites. You ready? And you can listen to this podcast again if I go through it too fast. Click work. Micro workers. Work from home. Copy and pasting. Really what you're doing is helping companies with copying and pasting information into templates. And if you're really good at it, there's built-in pay raises too. But it's 15 bucks an hour from home.
[00:35:04] Online data entry. Click work. Micro workers. There's two places to start. You can also go online. Upwork is a place that you can find where you can find people to do this or you can do it yourself. Is to provide captioning. So you're going to watch content during the day and you're going to actually put forth the text that they're saying. So you're going to caption it. And you can actually make money doing that. Also, working from home, you can do answering live chat.
[00:35:33] So Mod Squad is one. The chat shop. They're always hiring. And you can actually do this at night. You can do live chat at night. If you're a night bird, this might be a good opportunity for you. Also, a website tester. Survey taker. You go into the websites. You kind of troubleshoot issues or problems. Can't really navigate it very well. You're making probably $10 to $60 for every test that you take. So there's another thing that you can do.
[00:36:05] Also, transcriptionists. You're going to listen to podcasts and transcribe them like this, like this podcast. And you can get into medical transcribing. You can just go to Transcribe Me. That's the website. Transcribe Me. And get some work. Something to do this week, right? Proofreading. A lot of blog posts and a lot of bloggers and websites of e-books and things like that. They want proofreading services. You can actually go to proofreading services. It's a website.
[00:36:32] And you can apply to do that kind of work. Also, customer service. Sometimes you're making $20 to $30 an hour doing customer service. You can be an online tutor. There's a lot of opportunities for online tutoring. Oh, I did mention that one. Okay. And then, of course, virtual assistant. If you're good at social media, you can go to Upwork or Fancy Hands. And you can apply for work as a virtual assistant.
[00:36:58] Maybe somebody just needs some help in a myriad of different ways. But oftentimes, I'm going to say this is more about you probably need to know a little bit more about social media. You can also be a freelance writer. You can go to Fiverr with two R's. Fiverr with two R's. Upwork or Pro Blogger. And you can find some work there for freelancing. They'll actually ask and be very specific about what they want. You can do voiceover work.
[00:37:25] $20 to $40 an hour to do or buy the job, really. $100 for a job or more. You can go to Voices.com and do voiceover work. It takes a little bit to get known and get some jobs under your belt. But you charge a little less. And then you start charging more for doing some voice work. And really, all it takes, it's about $100 to start because you're buying a good microphone or at least a decent microphone. And you just have your laptop or whatever.
[00:37:55] So there's a lot of ways there. But there's a lot of ways online as far as captioning or survey taking or transcription or online data that if you're retired and let's say you just want to work, say, 10 hours a week at this and just make some extra money. There are so many ways to do this. It's really, really cool, actually. You can actually use Dropship to sell T-shirts that you never have to handle the shipping or you never have to handle any product.
[00:38:22] And all you have to do is go on to Etsy, see what's selling. Did you know that everyone on Etsy that's selling, because it's worldwide, the information is all there. You can actually see who's selling the most, what kinds of products. You'd be surprised at the kinds of products that people are selling. So it's a good place to go. Caller, you've got 30 seconds. [00:38:50] I worked in the painting and carpentry business in Las Vegas. But I'm semi-retired. I'm 57. But what I'm telling everybody out there right now, what you need to do is just start looking for gold. Since Donald Trump said it's a new gold age, go buy yourself a metal detector and a book on where to find gold and start looking. You got it. That's the way to make money. You got it. Hey, I love it.
